Claude LeSueur hurled his final insult in the face of Jean Pelletier igniting the young trapper’s white hot temper. A flash of fury and a naked blade left the son of wealthy fur merchant Maurice LeSueur gasping out his last breath on the banks of the St. Lawrence.
Jean, together with his brother Andre, flee Canada and the hangman’s gallows, while behind them follow two murderous river pirates, Joseph Quesnel and his silent partner known only as ‘the wolverine.’ Hired by LeSueur to hunt them down Quesnel harbors his own secret hatred for Jean Pelletier and is hunting for his own purposes.
Making their way into the American West where free trappers gathered and beaver shined the brothers melt into the world of the Indian and the mountain man. As the years pass the memories of Canada and Claude LeSueur become faded dreams until the day Jean’s past comes back and threatens the new life he has so carefully built.
Where Free Men Gather is Fisher’s first book in the Poudre Canyon Saga. His second book of the series White Grizzly is available at all major booksellers.

White Grizzly is the second installment in Fisher’s Poudre Canyon Saga.
Thirty years have passed since Andre Pelletier parted from his brother and became White Grizzly the Crow War Chief. War has gripped the West with the Sioux nation joining forces with the Cheyenne and Arapaho to fight the hated blue coat soldiers over the treaty breaking Bozeman Road. The Crow were content to let their enemy, the Sioux, struggle with the soldiers until a patrol out of Fort Phil Kearny attacked the village of White Grizzly hurling them into the war.
Pressed between his position of leadership, a son gone insane and renegade, and the knowledge that the world they knew is rapidly changing Andre makes the long journey to Colorado to leave the women and children of his family in the safety of his brother Jean. Then, accompanied by his sons, White Grizzly returns to the Powder River to fight a war he’s not sure they can win.

Where Free Men Gather, the first book of Dave P. Fisher’s The Poudre Canyon Saga trilogy will soon be available from Bottom of the Hill Publishing.
Mountain men, Voyageurs, pioneers, and explorers make up most of the branches of Dave’s family tree. His mother’s side was from Canada where the men plied the fur trade in the Canadian wilderness. Some ventured into the Rocky Mountains during the beaver boom in the 1820’s. Others moved down into the wilds of Northern Minnesota and established trading posts among the Chippewa Indians.
On his father’s side were soldiers, veterans of the War of 1812, and the Spanish American War. His natural grandfather died out West while working as a telegrapher for the railroad. His step grandfather, born in the 1800’s, was Blackfoot Indian from Montana. He was a hunter and horseman who brought a great deal of Old West influence into the Fisher family.
Dave brings his heritage and experience alive in every line he writes, Where Free Men Gather is his finest work yet. Look for Where Free Men Gather at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and other fine books sellers available September 2010.
